The town of Cayey on the southeastern/central portion of the island of Puerto Rico is a city with over 50,000 people featuring a university and booming industry.  Cayey derives from the Taino Indian word meaning “place of waters.”  However, in modern times the land and topography in Cayey is known locally for its twin mountain peaks that surround the town known as the “Tetas De Cayey.”  Cayey’s location makes it a great place to explore as it resides just off of Puerto Rico’s major scenic highway artery connecting the north to the south (PR-52), and it’s route traverses near Puerto Rico’s “Ruta Panorámica” or “Panoramic Route” through the mountains, offering excellent views.   This region of the land is also known as prime area for tobacco growing.

Some of the highlights in and around the town of Cayey include the Carite (Guavate) State Forest where you can enjoy a day eating “lechón” (pork) or visiting the famous “Charco Azul” Natural Swimming Hole (Blue Pond).
